User Research skills

A summary of my key skills and experience is as follows:

  • Single-handedly creating, growing and leading a brand new user research team and function within a government organisation very new to Agile  
  • Experience of delivering and leading a wide range of user research projects (moderated, remote and guerilla) in discovery, alpha, beta and live. This includes using methods such as contextual research, usability testing, diary studies, as well as developing storyboards, personas, journey maps etc, and reporting research findings at all levels. 
  • Over 8 years of experience of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research across government, NHS and academia. 
  • Training and upskilling researchers in government and academia
  • Doing researchOps, including creating a user research library and user research repository. 
  • Encouraging team members within Agile teams where possible to participate in user research and working together to implement solutions
  • Confident in research strategy and reporting research findings using various methods at all levels
  • Championing and advocating the benefits of user research inside and outside the organisation
  • Experience of conducting user research with users with accessibility needs, low digital and literacy skills, and those hard to reach.
  • Assessing services in all phases against GDS service standards 
  • Previous experience working in HTML, javascript and CSS. 

Academic Research skills

  • Developing research design based on both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Designing technology based intervention studies for a London based NHS trust
  • Successfully co-acquiring funding from a London based charity to run a technology based intervention study
  • Preparing research applications (qualitative; quantitative; experimental; and mixed methods) for NHS ethical approval
